LOCAL 1482

NEEDS A NEW KIND OF LEADERSHIP

For Local President

George Sarah Olken

In four years driving the Bookmobile, I've worked alongside staff from more than forty branches and from every department. The Bookmobile is a library-on-wheels, and I am branch manager as well as clerk and custodian: I answer reference questions, haul totes, and clean dog poo off the floor. I know from experience that at BPL, we work hard! Every Library Worker deserves to have their voice heard and their questions addressed by the Union.

The Local President works for you. I want the job in order to get more members involved, to build strength, to make meaningful changes to our Working Conditions. I will keep the membership informed about what the Executive Board and I are working on, so you can tell us when to do something differently, and so we can work on the most important issues together. Local 1482 needs a president and executive board with a renewed commitment to Respect, Communication, and Solidarity.
